Coastal trail walking and biking!

Half Moon Bay Coast side Trail & Bluff Top Trail

95 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay, CA  (650) 726-8819

The Half Moon Bay Coast side Trail stretches from Half Moon Bay State Park to Miramar -- totaling nearly 6 miles.  With its well paved path, the bluff top trail is a great multiuse course for walkers, joggers, strollers and bike riders. A horse trail parallels the Coast side Trail from Roosevelt Beach to Francis Beach and connects with the Bluff Top Trail that parallels the Beach. The green space along the trail between the Half Moon Bay State Beach and the Bluff Top Park (Poplar Beach) is ideal for bird watching.  Large hawks often sit on the split rail fence and park benches -- sometimes allowing visitors to come within 6 feet of them. Find a bench after a nice walk or bikeride and watch a spectacular sunset!

Surfing Half Moon Bay!

Surfing Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay is a city located in California in the pacific coastline between the California coastline and beautiful forested mountains. The downtown is characterized by art galaries, restaurants, lounges and other magnificent creations. Equestrians, bicyclists and pedestrians normally access the local beaches for holidays and for recreational activities. The temperatures of the town are moderate, allowing people to participate in a many outside activities throughout the year.

Water surfing is a common recreational activity in Half Moon Bay. There are various beaches at the coast that are characterized by large waves forming curly crescents and breaking as they approach the beach. Such waves make it possible for surfers to enjoy riding on them. In Half Moon Bay, surfers surf for both competition and leisure. You will find a number of people in surfing wet suits carrying surf boards walking down the coast. Competitors participate in sports such as Sea kayaking and paddle boarding.

The locals of Half Moon Bay undertake various surfing activities. They participate in body surfing, the purest kind of surfing we have today, where people ride the wave with no surfboard. Other people use stand up paddles to ride the waves while others employ the use of canoes and boats on the waves. All types of standup surfing including stand up paddles, long boarding and short boarding are practiced in the beaches.

There are no official rules governing surfing in Half Moon Bay. Most beaches are open to the public but people take precaution by practicing safe surfing for both beginners and experts.

Free Activities at the beach in Half Moon Bay with your family: Be creative!

Family fun in half moon bay

Half-moon bay is a coastal city in California; it began as an agricultural area for rearing cattle and horses and then gradually grew into a tourist attraction site due to its marvelous scenery. Most people go relax, and have fun and refresh their memories. There are several activities that take place; some of them are included below:

Free Activities at the beach with your family: Be creative!

Making footprints in the sand with your children and even making castles on the shores. This is done by collecting sand and mixing it with fresh water not salty water until it is damning enough and can hold the shape of the container being used. You can also collect shells, pebbles and sea weeds and impresses them on the sand in order to make pictures on the beach, you can also look for a string and make a necklace!

Beach volleyball is also a popular beach activity and brings together both the older children and the young adults. With enough space one can improvise the net by using the available resources e.g.picnic baskets or windbreaks. The splash game is also a family fun game but not recommended for the faint-hearted, this game is best played at the beach were clothes don't really matter at all. It is perfect for the mixed family age-groups. The people who want to take part should be a good sport person in order for it to be hilarious, nevertheless they should be a life saver just in case of an accident

Another activity is by challenging the family to Frisbee golf. Make your own version of a golf course on the sand and then let the members take turns to complete the holes. Whoever completes the first and has the highest scores will then be awarded a price followed by the fist runners up and the second runners up.

Ketch Joannes Dining!

Tuesday, July 13, 2010
Ketch Joannes Restaurant, Half Moon Bay, Ca
Located at 17 Johnson Pier in the Harbor of Half Moon Bay Ketch Joannes is a great, casual place to dine, while on the coast. The Half Moon Bay Harbor is the only commercial fishery in San Mateo County giving "The Ketch" access to the freshest seafood. Half Moon Bay has many great places to dine, but if you want bang for your buck this is your stop. This is a dive restaurant whos atmosphere is not necessarily upscale, fancy, or elegant; but the food is. This is where the local fisherman eat in the morning before going out on their hard days work. I mean what is cooler than eating at a place excellent where all the rugged fisherman eat at. Breakfast, lunch, and diner are all great to eat here because 1. you know what you are getting. 2. you will always leave full. 3. the staff is friendly. 4. the food is great. My top favorites at Ketch Joannes have to be 1. the GRILLED crab melt sandwich- this is the best tasting sandwich in the whole bay area. 2. grilled rock cod with the teriyakiglaze-mmmmmm mmmm good. 3. The clam chowder- Only the Boston white, it is full of a seafood combination that is thick and creamy. 4 Fried Calamari/ Artichoke hearts- cooked to perfection. 5. blueberry pancakes- ihop has nothing on them. and my last recommendation and personnel favorite has to be the linguica omelet w/ cheddar cheese and home fries- More meat than eggs and potatoes. This is Michael Seaton with Realty Consulting Group Giving my opinion on one of Half Moon Bay's Finest Dining places due to its quality of food and great atmosphere. Check it out for yourself and prove me wrong I dare you!!!!

Day 1: Golf Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay Golf Links features 36 holes of grand golf. The complex offers two beautifully designed courses set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, which consist of The Old Course and The Ocean Course. These two courses are very different in style; however they both share a common beauty that will take anyone’s breath away.
The Old Course is an 18 hole championship course that brings you through and around the private community of Ocean Colony that features small ponds, large pines, and the Pacific bluffs. The Old Course dramatically caps off with the 17th and 18th holes. The 17th hole is a short par 3, where the Pacific Ocean comes into full panoramic view on the horizon. The view only sets up what is to come- the 18th hole. This hole is world famous and is a great way to finish a round in Half Moon Bay. The backdrop is the elegantly architectural designed Ritz Carlton that sits right above the bluffs of the Pacific. To the right of the 18th, powerful waves crash with furious power creating a salty mist that you can feel, and creates an art in motion that you will remember. These finishing holes will only add to the beauty and experience that the Old Course has to offer.
The Ocean Course is entirely different in style than the American designed Old Course, but shares beauty and elegance in the same. The Ocean Course has a link’s layout with a true Scottish design and feeling. The Course will give players a view of the Pacific Ocean and the bluffs from every hole on the course. It is the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes on the Oceans lineup against the red colored bluffs to your left, which makes these holes instant classics. The Ocean Course is a getaway from a getaway in itself.
The Golf Course at Half Moon Bay is a fun activity for the day, and will not disappoint visitors or locals alike. All holes on the golf course are well maintained, and the greens play fairly fast at different points of the year. The staff makes sure things move along, so a round under 4 ½ hours should not be a problem. The course will always bring superior customer service, high ranked golf holes, and some of the most breath taking views in the world.
